Development and Testing of Improved Efficiency Boron-Enriched Diammonium Phosphate Fertilizers

The application of boron (B) fertilizers is challenging due to the high solubility commonly used B compounds, small requirement by crops, and narrow range between toxicity deficiency levels for plants. a B-only fertilizer without macronutrient carrier inefficient cost double handling poor distribution micronutrient in field. An improved efficiency proposed using wax- or elemental sulfur (ES)–coated core granulated colemanite within pellet composed diammonium phosphate (DAP). We assessed dissolution rate, release soil, crop uptake two consecutive crops under simulated leaching conditions. with ES-coated showed much slower compared DAP pelleted borax uncoated colemanite. A soil incubation experiment initially elevated extractable concentrations (> 5 mg kg?1) around powders. coated more gradual B, 32–38% still pellets 8 weeks after soil. In plant growth experiments, 24–37% added was lost leachates products only 1–2% which resulted higher yield fertilizers. infer from results that these novel compound released at rate slow enough prevent large losses but fast meet demand.
